Born in Glasgow in 1960 .

Studied engineering at University Of Newcastle Upon Tyne and spent several years in the Merchant Navy and working in the shipping industry .

Now retired I concentrate on my painting

Started painting in the late eighties and have been largely self taught . I am attracted to the bright sunlight of the Mediterranean and find the contrast of light and shadow in the towns and villages of Italy as my inspiration. I find the bright colours of Italy and the sharp contrast of light and shadow can make a particularly arresting image

I visit Italy every year particularly Venice and central Tuscany particularly the area around Barga and Somnocolonia .

I work in a variety of media . I particularly favour gouache and oil however I prefer water colour when working outside
