Sara Melville

My practice is in contemporary mosaic and involves the use of recycled, found, and foraged materials including natural rocks and stone to create natural looking, organic, highly textured pieces of abstract visual art. This has been inspired by my passion for all things landscape and nature due to my background as a Landscape Architect and experience in landscape design, conservation, geology and music.

I have always been drawn to natures’ colours, patterns, textures, marks, rock formations, mineral colours and the exquisite details of lichens, mosses and other plants growing on rocks, trees and in tiny crevisses . My mosaics aim to recreate the immersive experience of looking into these mini landscapes and habitats. Through my larger scale pieces I aim to highlight the cause of climate change and the importance of the restoration of peatland habitats for carbon capture.
