Elizabeth Lawson

I am an Ayrshire artist inspired by nature. My work is generally influenced by my surroundings - from the seasonal changes in my garden to the dramatic colours of the Ayrshire landscape and coastal weather. My style is becoming more abstract and I'm happiest working in mixed media or watercolour and inks - and now also acrylics - using strong vibrant colour palettes. And sometimes with a bit of texture in there too! I only started painting around 5 years ago after retiring and seeking a different artistic outlet - previously textile and embroidery and tapestry had been my thing - after my 2nd year art teacher told me I’d be better off taking geography, which sadly I did! This would be only my fourth exhibition and I’ve recently also participated in my first Art Fair. My submission is something of a departure from my more recognisable style but who could fail but to love the strength and depth of those colours - when I saw him,  I had to paint him! The intensity and detail of the work meant that I focussed and formed a real connection with this beautiful creature.
