Liz Reid

Liz Reid was brought up in Paisley, before moving to Dundee to study illustration and printmaking at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art. After an extensive creative career in local government, most recently as Design Adviser for South Lanarkshire Council and including a spell as Chair of Creative Exchange, the forum for public sector creatives in Scotland, she now works as a full-time artist from her studio base in Many Studios in the Barras in Glasgow.

Liz enjoys plein air ‘urban’ sketching and reportage studies of the world around her, with a particular interest in architectural subjects. Scenes captured are often off-beat or unexpected, not the landmark buildings but the overlooked corners of a city – back lanes and everyday views of rooftops, tenements and the city's people.

Statement

I was brought up in Paisley, before moving to Dundee to study illustration and printmaking at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art. After an extensive creative career in local government, most recently as Design Adviser for South Lanarkshire Council and including a spell as Chair of Creative Exchange, the forum for public sector creatives in Scotland, I now work as a full-time artist from my studio base in Many Studios in the Barras in Glasgow. I never left my drawing practice behind after art school and my work as a graphic designer has always been grounded very solidly in illustration.  I enjoy plein air (urban) sketching and reportage studies of the world around me, with a particular interest in architectural subjects in my hometown of Glasgow and from travels in Scotland, Europe and beyond. Scenes captured are often off-beat or unexpected, not the landmark buildings but the overlooked corners of a city – back lanes and everyday views of rooftops and tenements, or people in the city going about their business.
