Jack McGuire

I am a contemporary artist from Glasgow, currently based in Aberdeen. Having been a third generation bartender for my family's independent pub in Paisley and now being a mixologist for a cocktail bar in Aberdeen, the current issues threatening bars out of business across the country is something that is all to relevant to me.

Through the medium of screen printing, I raise awareness of the problems that threaten closure for these bars. High taxes on alcohol and the high cost of utilities are key issues explored through these prints as well as highlighting the importance the local pub serves as a community hub. The subject matter for these prints have been informed through research into subjects like the VAT tax on alcohol sales and conducted audio interviews with workers in the pub industry in order to truly express the frustration the industry is facing.
