GEORGE IRONS

This is a painting of a plaster cast sculpture  by Benno Schotz of Sir John Richmond in GSA's Archive and Collections.  

The piece is made up of 20 individual canvases , all individually painted in isolation , and assembled , like a jigsaw at the end .

Normally I would grid up the canvas at the start of a painting , but this time the canvases became the grid. Painting each canvas in isolation resulted in a patchwork effect which gives the piece an interesting perspective
