Statement
Karl Macrae is a contemporary mixed media embroidery artist. His work is inspired by the natural world, architecture and portraiture. Karl creates his artwork by stitching his designs in to watercolour card. He uses a Pearl Cotton Thread as his pen mark and vintage papers, coloured card, gold/silver and copper leaf has his paint strokes. He has exhibited around the central belt including, but not exclusively in, Dalkeith Country Palace for Inception II 2022. A solo show in Coburg House, Leith in 2020. A number of times in The Dovecot Studios, Edinburgh and in Out of The Blue for their 25th Anniversary in 2019. He has been featured on television in Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas in 2021 and is a finalist in The Scottish Portrait Awards 2022.
