The Dandelion is an acrylic painting on canvas that is based off of a poem that I myself have written from the dandelions perspective.
This takes inspiration from the old Glasgow tenement buildings and a child's perspective of life, the optimism they choose to see even when life is tough.
THE DANDELION
Against the odds I sprouted here,
The reason why is still unclear.
Within the cracks of the sidewalk street,
A dandelion I am, at their feet.
No attention or a second look,
I hide here within this nook.
Everything surrounds me so dark and dreary,
Yet here I am so bright and cheery.
Just a weed I heard them say,
A child ignoring it and coming to play.
He spots me within the gap,
And softly takes me into his lap.
A smile he shows in amazement,
Feeling appreciated in his embracement.
A yellow haze now upon his face,
As he softly holds me in this place.
I am not just a weed as they may say,
I am a miracle flower that is on display.
The light in the darkness that he needed to see,
A flower so bright that could set him free.
And so he perches still holding I,
A wish he makes as I start to fly...
