Weapons of Peace

Weapons of Peace
Art has always been a medium of self expression. However, for me, this perspicuity was bit of a late bloom. As a former social researcher, trying to rationalise the social world through words continued to leave me with an unsatiated tingling for self expression. My zeal for art that remained dormant under this bookish academic knowledge, finally erupted with a keen passion to express my thoughts, perceptions and sentiments through art, and thereby developing my own individualistic artistic style. This ordeal of self expression through my own stylised art was a war in the peace of my mind, which ultimately lead to the creation my present artwork ‘Weapons of Peace’.

In this present piece, I used bright red colour as the background, and jagged sharp strokes on the stylised figure to represent the affliction of expressing my individualism through art. The depiction of pens, pencils, paints and brushes - all symbolise my ‘weapons’ of creativity, whilst the white flowers indicate peace, purity and originality thereby making ‘Weapons of Peace’ a self explorative artwork. The beauty of this piece is that it not only recognises the expression of happiness and evokes the emotions of exuberance, but at the same time draws attention to its contrasting colours and the overall visual composition.
