Never off the Table

Never off the Table, Painting
Never off the Table
This is a painting; Acrylic and Oil on canvas. The setting was worked on from life at Hawkhead Station, Paisley, during the covid-19 'lockdown' of 2020, during which time I found myself drawn to the train stations because they were suddenly empty and inactive; a mundane, every-day part of life made alien and unfamiliar by the unusual pandemic situation we all suddenly found ourselves in. This seemed to me like something which ought to be documented. In their emptiness- in knowing the reason for it- there was an inherent sense of uneasiness, foreboding - even of impending doom, something uncanny or even disastrous incoming in place of the cancelled trains themselves. The woman in the picture, waiting for whatever is due into the station, is resigned to it, I feel. The sheep, perhaps, has a different perspective on the scene.
