I explore the boundaries of figurative painting by employing a bold, colorful language with simplified forms. I wish to peruse the iconography of the female figure in contemporary culture through constructing non-conforming, autonomous, and visible bodies. The implied narrative in my paintings signifies the right of women to present themselves without fearing criticism.
In a society obsessed with body image and youthfulness, my work reflects on the response of some women confronted by the unrealistic and somewhat unattainable expectations placed on them. I reclaim and celebrate more realistic representations of the figure, playing with perceptions of female identity through the use of bold colours, textiles, and accessories.
