I interrogate how we express and influence cultural attitudes about contemporary women and other marginalized figures, and how this affects gender politics. Identity and body image are core influences in my work, and I explore how women are impacted by societal gatekeeping. Gatekeeping is when individuals or communities are excluded from, or policed, by the broader community to which they belong. This can impede women from participating in discussion, entering a space they would otherwise be entitled to, or claiming and expressing their own identity.
I believe that art has the power to challenge the status quo and to create a more inclusive society. My work is a way of raising awareness about the challenges that women face, and I hope that it will inspire others to take action.
