Jenny Brown

Jenny Brown is a Scottish seascape artist working mainly in oils. She is a member of Paisley Art Institute and has participated with Open Studios Ayrshire for 11 years.

Statement

I am an award-winning seascape artist and retired teacher from Kilmarnock. I'm a member of Paisley Art Institute, Ayr Sketch Club and Troon Art Club. I won the Buckreddan Prize at North Ayrshire Open Art exhibition in 2022. I've been with Artmap Argyll for 3 years and in my 13th year with Open Studios Ayrshire. My paintings, mainly in oils, are hugely inspired by my love of the Scottish islands, west coast beaches and the dramatically changing light. I am excited by colour and like to dial up tones and contrasts until they pop.

My solo exhibitions include:

'Footprints in the Sand' (Dunlop Village Hall 2024); 'Between Sand, Sea & Sky' (Harbour Cottage Gallery 2024); Arran & Iona, the Mystical Isles' (Souter Gallery, Kirkoswald 2024); 'Scotland in Colour' (The Gather, Tarbert' 2023); 'Wave Forms' for 2020 Year of Coast & Water, 'Fairytales and Fantasy' (Ayr Hospital 2017) and 'Alice's Looking Glass' commissioned by North Ayrshire Council to commemorate Alice in Wonderland in 2015.
