Airborne is an installation that examines society's relationship with travel and the recent Covid pandemic. Created structurally from plaster, rope and wire the art work is then painted and dressed with a range of recycled Covid Tests from one family including positive tests. It is an interactive hanging exhibit designed to be floating in a gallery space and invite visitors in for a closer look, only to then ask them to make a decision whether to step back from the artwork when they become aware of positive tests on the piece. It reflects the publics ongoing decision making when it comes to the Airborne virus Covid-19. Whether to get close to someone. Whether to step back. Whether to travel. Whether to stay still.
It invites viewers to reflect on their own testing experience. Their own volume of tests. Their own travel plans during Covid.
It invites storytelling as viewers wonder the outcome of the positive cases on the artwork including life and death.
The colourful exhibit's playful presentation is full of warmth, but carries a darker tale in the space where it hangs.
