I used acrylic paint and pva to create the linear texture I wanted, then built up the forms of face and hands with thin layers of colour. I used the motif of line and threads to express the idea of the infinitely complex strands of family, story and memory that make us who we are. This was inspired by research into my own family's historical connections to handloom weaving, and the story of the 1820 Scottish Uprising.
