The painting depicts a section of the river Lochay, where it flows through Killin, at one end of Loch Tay, in the central highlands. I was struck by the absolute calm of the water, and the slightly disorientating reflection, as well as the rich texture and colour of the foliage, which contrasts with the mirror like surface of the water.
