This painting is part of a series of cityscapes, in low lighting conditions, that I have been developing recently, which reflect the influence of Whistler, and perhaps, to a lesser degree, Hopper. I was fascinated by the interplay of natural and artificial light that typifies early evening, or early morning, in a city. In addition to this, the scene is one I know well, and it has personal associations.
