This is a scene that doesn't actually exist, but is composed of elements that do. I had been thinking about Gothic novels being set, characteristically, in and around particular types of buildings which, in their turn, have become synonymous with a certain type of story telling, and I was wondering about this having an effect on a city wide scale: if the built environment might somehow influence the imagination of the inhabitants, of a city, in a certain way. The cherry blossom is another favourite motif of mine, and the contrast between the two elements interested me.
