The subjects my paintings are generally places I know well, that gradually grow into ideas for paintings, for a variety of reasons. Primarily I am interested in formal qualities: the qualities that convey visual sensations, but in the end I am usually satisfied that the painting also communicates more subtle, metaphysical qualities, in a way that is personally meaningful.
