With me is a large etched print with chine colle featuring the view from Fife looking over the Forth. This print is from a series of works based on the relief that Nicola sought and found after going through a number of life changing experiences, including becoming a mother. During that time, walking along the Fife Coastal Path, watching the transience within the scenery provided a tonic to all these changes, offering some clarity and calm. The mediative quality of the ongoing sound of the sea is reflected through etched repeat patterns. This work delves into the layers of uncertainty felt during this period and how this was abated by developing routines and embracing this special time in her life.
In this recent work, Nicola combines painting on calligraphy rice paper, applied within the chine colle process, with her love of etching.
