A place of safety and respite. This work is part of an on-going series of paintings inspired by the tree islands that we see standing in fields and hedge lines. I am fascinated by the vital refuge these provide for birds and wildlife to rest, recover and nest. In painting this I wanted to build the contrast between the tree and surrounding fields. The feeling of the tree being part of a network is implied by the inclusion of finer linear marks which hint at a plan. I do feel the parallel between the need for countries who can to also provide a safe home for those in need.
